community, live as independently as they are able, and
enjoy a life which they find rich and fulfilling. Today, Vantage serves forty-seven individuals who
reside in the communities of North Haven, Hamden, New Haven, West Haven, and Orange. Vantage Group's employment support program was established in 1997. This program assists people in attaining their financial goals, while building skills through traditional and other means of obtaining income. Some approaches include assisting people who desire independent employment with support in seeking and securing jobs. Vantage also provides supported employment opportunities to individuals who require ongoing assistance after they are hired in a job. The employment support program also coordinates volunteer placements for program participants who seek to provide services to their communities, or those who are interested in acquiring skills which may lead to future employment opportunities.
Vantage is led by a dedicated Board of Directors, representatives of family
members of program participants, and professionals from the local community. A staff of seventy-two
full-time, part-time and per diem workers provide support to individuals served by the program. Consultants
such as registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers and
others contract with Vantage to meet individualized needs of program participants. Medical needs
are met through community physicians and health care providers of the individuals'
choices. Vantage's community connections extend to generous local civic and service organizations. These relationships, as well as community supported fund raising activities, benefit program participants directly by providing monetary assistance for arts and leisure interest classes in the community which they ordinarily might not find affordable. In addition, Vantage also sponsors a number of workshops and classes in-house, most of which are open to family members and friends of program participants. The Community Enrichment Program helps to strengthen the values Vantage holds in inclusion for all people. Vantage Group strives to continually refine and improve services, and to adapt to the changing needs of the individuals it serves. The Agency supports and participates in an extensive process of values-based training for those employed by the agency. Through the value of a person centered approach to service delivery and the vehicles of teamwork, networking and collaboration, Vantage continues to be a forerunner in assisting individuals to receive the supports they require to maintain healthy, productive, and fulfilling lives in their homes and in the communities where they live and work. |
